as I was only a newly minted 5 year old (my birthday was nine days earlier), I don’t really remember what happened on this day 13 years.
I do remember that I was wearing a purple t-shirt. And when I got home from preschool, I remember my mom sitting me down at the breakfast table and calmly explaining to me that something very bad had happened in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania that day. I don’t remember how she worded it, but I’m pretty sure that my five year old brain couldn’t comprehend just how major this attack actually was.
How many people had died.
How many heroes there were.
Why did al-Qaeda did it.
How America would never be the same again.
I think about that and many other things on this day. And I sincerely pray for all of the families that are incomplete because of a loved one lost.
